We decided that Bruce should wear the crown and reign as the Sexiest Man Alive for 2007. This was prompted by seeing a current issue of People Magazine with Matt Damon on the cover and voted as 2007's Sexiest Man Alive. Along with Matt Damon, here's a list of other Hollywood Heartthrobs that are on the "Hot List". We wanted to get a discussion going with other opinions about the "Hot List". Let us know your thoughts. Do you agree or disagree with the choices. Dungeons & Dragons 2. Paranoia 1.0 3. Warlock III 4. La Femme Nikita 5. Ripper: Letter from Hell 6. Highlander: Endgame 7. Kounterfeit 8. Operation Intercept 9. The Apocalypse 10. Hellborn aka Asylum of the Damned As for the 14 listed as the "Hot List Heartthrobs", there's only one name on that list that I will agree with! Only one!! As for the 14 on the "Simply Sexy" list, I have to say to each and every name, "WHO"?

Where should I start? Most of the men on this list I wouldn't walk across the room to meet, except for Johnny Depp (very sexy, lots of presence) and maybe Will Smith (very charming and lots of presence). Let me be blunt (I'm the "bad cop," Israfel is the "good cop" ). I think Matt Damon is not only NOT sexy, i think he's ugly!! G-a-a-g-h!! All I can figure is that he has a really good press agent. As for the rest of them--Crowe is repulsive but at least he can act; Affleck is soooo boringly bland, a terrible actor and absolutely no presence; Pitt is blandly cute but has no presence; and Timberlake is a little boy with utterly no presence and I have no idea why anyone thinks he is handsome--g-a-a-r-g-h again. Washington is OK and at least he has some presence and McConaughey is sorta OK. Butler is a big yawner, Clive Owen looks like a back-street brawler and has no presence. The rest of them--don't know what they look like and don't care. They must ALL have good press agents and/or the American public are a bunch of sheep. Except that this list wasn't compiled from the American public. Who knows how they come up with these lists. I suspect it's those darn press agents again. MY list--which is admittedly highly idiosyncratic is below. The order --except for Bruce--is somewhat arbitrary. Hard to rank in order but here are some current actors that I think are HOT: 1. Bruce Payne [I mean, after all, of course!!] 2. Daniel Craig [current James Bond] 3. Mark Lindsay Chapman [Swamp Thing and Langoliers] 4. David Tennant [current Dr. Who--what a charmer!] 5. Johnny Depp Please note that the first four are British, Do you think that's an accident? Heck, no. the Brits have a LOT more panache than American actors and panache is sexy. I'll come back with more later but I think this rant will get things off to a good start.

Well, OK, I'll rank my top ten though it's really hard. 1. Jurgen from LFN 2. Phillip Covington, the warlock in Warlock III (oh those leather pants!) 3. Jacob Kell in HEG 4. Savak in One's Man's justice (oh that long blond hair!) 5. Prof. Kane in Ripper (I have a soft spot for professors ) 6. Damodar in D&D (love that black armor) 7. The Neighbor in Paranoia 1.0 8. The Devil in Switch (sin becomes so tempting...) 9. Major Pruitt in Operation Intercept (his hair is perfect) 10. Frankie in Kounterfeit (I just can't resist long blond hair ) and almost tied is Harker from The Howling. (that voice!) Now you may notice that absent from both Israfel's list and mine is Charles Rane from P57. Don't get us wrong, we both think Bruce was gorgeous in this film and his performance was superb. But there is something about a psychotic sociopath that is less than really sexy to us. Now we know we are being inconsistent a bit because some of the characters on our lists are not exactly Mr. Nice Guy. In fact you could argue that some of them are psychotic sociopaths too. So sue us, we're inconsistent. Now we want to know what some of the rest of you think...

Who? Well, I do recognize 2 names. Taye Diggs. He's OK but I've never seen him act so no real opinion. Will Yun Lee was in Witchblade with Yancy Butler and in the Bond movie Die Another Day (the one with Halle Berry). I think Jet Li is a LOT sexier martial artist/fighter. All these guys must have really good press agents, what can I say. Oh yes, and they're mostly fairly young too. Well, sorry but the really young ones aren't all that sexy--too bland and callow. I think "older" men are MUCH sexier, i.e., over 30 at least and 40s is even better. And frankly 50s isn't such a bad age either.

To be perfectly honest, when I saw the People Magazine and read the cover that Matt Damon was Sexiest Man Alive, I said What? You have got to be kidding!! You cannot be serious!! Then my next thought was I knew exactly who should be on that cover - Bruce, of course. I thought the same thing last year when George Clooney took top honors as 2006's Sexiest Man. I had the same reaction over that cover as I did the Matt Damon cover. Looking further at the list of "hot list heartthrobs", I just couldn't take anymore. Knowing exactly who should have been on the 2007 cover, I decided to do just that - put Bruce on the cover - a mock cover, that is. With the exception of one or two, I know who they all are on the hot list. They just don't have IT, at least not in my opinion; well I think one does. Not the way Bruce does. As we said on the Birthday page, he has IT. The presence, the panache, the intensity, charm, charisma, and such a talented actor. I was so taken aback watching him for the first time in D&D. I was blown away by his talent. Spellbound and mesmerized are the 2 words I used to describe him and his performance. He had a uniqueness about him that was so rare and so striking and he still does. To me, these qualities are lacking in today's current crop of actors. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it to appear as if I'm picking on the men, I find the same to be true with the current crop of actresses that's on the screen now too. Ariel and I have made our list of who we think are the top ten sexiest Bruce characters. You ain't kidding Ariel, it was hard picking just ten. Ezechiel made great choices! She picked some winners! Just for the record, People Magazine's 2007 Sexiest Movie Character pick was James McAvoy. Also just for the record, I stated in my earlier comment there was only one name on the hot list that I would agree with - that's Johnny Depp. Hey Ariel, for the top ten Bruce character picks, let's sit back, put our wings up and watch each movie we picked!

Not many real men on the popular media lists, but then look who they're pandering to -- kids! Guys who stir me (and if they're dead, their movies are not) include Yul Brynner (The Sound and The Fury), Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn, William Holden (Picnic), and yes, Clark Gable as Rhett... Also liked the younger Frank Langella as Dracula. And a few men I have actually known.....

Nor are waiflike girls who look like they will blow away if you breath on them. Standards have definitely changed. Probably a reflection of the demographics. Most movie-goers are young so let's have actors that appeal to the young and who are not too threatening. Pretty young girls and boys are less threatening. Men or women with presence, power and charisma are threatening to young kids who are not sure who about their own identities. The actors now are not only much younger, they are a lot less powerful and charismatic than, for example, the men you name like Yul Brynner and Errol Flynn or the others. Flynn was REALLY handsome, so much so that he was almost pretty, but he had charisma that prevented him from seeming weak. Contrast him with Brad Pitt who is merely pretty. Pitt got panned in the film "Troy." Unbelievable as a the great warrior Achilles. In contrast Peter O'Toole (another one who is so handsome that he would be almost be "pretty" if he didn't have such a strong presence) got rave reviews for his portrayal of Priam in that film. All the men you name had charisma and presence. But who do we have now? Among the very young, virtually no one I can think of. Of those who are older (and still alive) not a lot. In America, there's Viggo Mortensen. And Avery Brooks has LOTS of presence. Most of the ones I can think of are British like the men I listed above. Most younger American actors seem so wussy. Another comparison: Christian Bale and Liam Neeson in the scene together in the latest Batman. What a joke. Neeson is SO charismatic that he completely steals the scene from Bale. Bale, who is much younger than Neeson, seems so wussy in comparison. However, just for the record, Bale is from Wales so not every Brit has charisma. And Neeson is not British, he's Irish but close enough. I could continue to rant but I'll come back later for that.

You know how to pick em! Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn, William Holden and Clark Gable - oh my, Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. Rhett Butler to me is the world's most perfect man, and I base that more on just the fact that Rhett happen to be from the South, which I am too. I thought in the sequel to Gone with the Wind, Scarlett, Timothy Dalton did a fine job as Rhett. It wasn't Clark Gable, but Dalton did very well. He's also one with presence, and charisma. In the sequel, the actress who portrayed Scarlett, I won't even go there with that portrayal. It was not Southern, that's for sure! Vivien Leigh pulled it off beautifully! I'm going off track here..... Yes Ariel - Errol Flynn, what a man! Women adored him and men wanted to be like him! I watched a special about him not long ago on TCM. Olivia de Havilland who co-starred in many, many films with Flynn sung his praises to the high heavens as did many other actors and actresses! He was one of the best! One of my favorites and he's no longer with us is Paul Henreid. Now he's WOW in my book! His most notable role was that of Victor Lazlo in Casablanca. Henreid could play any role from refined, dignified, elegant, to a roguish charismatic swashbuckler to sword & sandal epics. In the film Now Voyager with Bette Davis, he's famous for the scene where he lights 2 cigarettes at one time. What a scene! The only other time I've seen a man do that, he was having knives thrown at him in the circus! Bette Davis got to pick her leading man for Now Voyager, and she picked Henreid for the part. Ms. Davis, I salute you for such a wise choice! There's many others that are so overwhelming, so mesmerizing, so captivating - there's Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Richard Egan, and so many more I'll save for later. I guess the bottom line I'm expressing is I'd like to see some of the current crop even begin to swashbuckle like Flynn; be as refined, dignified and elegant as Paul Henreid, as massive as Charlton Heston! The current ones now, actors as well as actresses all appear to be out of the same clone factory (and they're not feeding them very well either). If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Nothing extraordinary, nothing unique, no magic, no presence, no WOW factor!

I may be one of the few people other than Egan's friends and family who watched "Love Me Tender" because he was in it rather than Elvis Presley! Loved Elvis' singing but to me, Egan was so much sexier and much more handsome. [I've always been a maverick ] I actually think Bruce is better looking than Egan but they both have that really masculine (I hate the word "manly") aura that so few young actors have today. I've already sang Errol Flynn's praises but let me add this--if any of you have not seen "Captain Blood," you don't know what you are missing! Swashbuckling at its best and Flynn is stunningly handsome. Love to see Bruce do a swashbuckler--he'd be fabulous too! Errol Flynn in "Captain Blood" Richard Egan

('De gustibus non est disputandum' -there's no point in debating about tastes). Actually, it all started with Howling VI- I had not seen or heard from him before. I watched this 'noble and sexy villain' transfixed and as the film didn't live up to my expectations I concluded if it wasn't for this actor, the film would not be worth buying on DVD or seeing once again. Mr Harker saved the film and was the only charismatic person in it!!!. Right after it was over I ran a Google search with his name I picked up from the cast list and came across 3 separate fan sites , thanx God, including yours. I was amazed at the effect he had on me and I think his secret is what I mentioned above, this mixture of nobility, talent, sexual appeal, uniqueness and sophisticated evil. I put the same question to myself as you often ask yourselves on this forum: How can evil be so delectable? And it is a poetic question because it cannot be answered.-we can 'only' enjoy the sight and the effect. But to get back to the topic of rating, I don't think I should grant first place to any other of his roles-Harker is my personal favourite. Although I became a fan in September (with Howling) and so far I have only seen Britannica, Paranoia and Dungeons and Dragons II, I watched your nice videos with Bruce in them and based on these I would say his second sexiest role is Covington in Warlock III., then comes the Neighbour in Paranoia, and these are followed closely by the Ravager, maybe Full Eclipse and so on. It' s really tough to set up the right order after the first three as I love his acting , facial expressions etc. in every one of them. Interestingly, however, Jürgen is not my type-I don't think Bruce's manliness is enhanced by his looks in that role-the Howling hairstyle (and hair mass) suits him better, not to speak of the clothes he's wearing-he looks like a prince! I hope you will like my rating and will not take offence because of Jürgen ). As for Brad Pitt , Clive Owen, Russell Crowe, I cannot see any manliness in them, they don't seem to have presence at all. Moreover, most of them don't even look good.

As you say, each to their own taste. But I sure understand why you were stunned by Harker. Bruce was truly amazing in this role. I actually think it was one of his best performances. I agree with everything you say about it. It was very subtle--he conveyed evil without heavy-handed or hammy acting but at the same time was very sophisticated and charming, albeit in a creepy way. Bruce can convey so many different nuances in his performances. Very few actors can do that. His ability to be both scary and charming at the same time is one of the hallmarks of his acting. And not only do you have excellent taste in who you like--Bruce--you have excellent taste in who you don't like...
